VanWichen, Love lead Malta to victory at Marian Hills

Malta dominated their home meet taking first as a team with 359 points, while also taking the top four spots at the meet.

Keenan VanWichen took first with a score of 86.

"It feels alright," Keenan Vanwichen said. "I didn't golf very good. It would've helped if I wouldn't go out of bounds. I went out of bounds three times today and still shot a 86."

Hunter Love placed second with 90 strokes.

"If you're not first, you're last," Love said quoting Reese Bobby from Telladega Nights.

Landon VanWichen took third with 91 and Cru Darrah took fourth with 92 strokes.

"I could have done a little better," Landon VanWichen said admitting he went out of bounds a few times.

He did say the last time he golfed at Marion Hills he got a 95, so he has improved.

Tyler Ost took eighth with a score of 102.

Whitewater's Layne Engel had a score of 105 and took ninth.

Saco's Christian Menge had a score of 125.

Eli Waters won the Junior Varsity meet, with 95 strokes. Grant O'Brien took fourth with 129.

Waters started off the day strong, tying K. VanWichen in the first nine with 41 strokes.

At his first hole, which was hole nine (par 4), Waters scored a birdie.

He said that he doesn't shoot many birdies, but he felt pretty good about the start.

To earn the birdie, Waters sank a 12 foot put in which he had no idea that it would even go in. In fact Waters was pessimistic of how the day would go.

"It's going to end badly," Waters said. "It might end up pretty good."
