Amongst the top athletes in Northern and Eastern Montana , the M-ettes would not be denied, taking first place, scoring 72 points at the North-East Top 10 meet in Glasgow last Tuesday, April 28. Glasgow was second with a score of 58 and Baker took third with 56.
Sophomore Sophia Stiles not only had personal best in the triple and long jump, she also broke meet records in the process.
Stiles recorded a new school record of 37 feet and one half inch in the triple jump. She previously set the school record of 36-9.75 at the Fergus Twilight Invitational on April 15. The previous Top 10 meet record belonged to Havre’s Sammy Evans, who had a leap of 36-07 in the 2010 meet.
Stiles had a long jump of 17-08, which is four inches more than the previous meet record set in 1999.
Stiles also won the 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 48.98 seconds. She took second in the 100 hurdles, with a time of 16.68.
Darby Schye took first in shot put after a throw of 38-07. Schye also took sixth in discus with a throw of 96-04, which is her new personal best.
Kaitlyn Smith brought her “A” game to the meet, recording a new personal best in javelin. Smith had a throw of 123-04 in the event and was only bested by Plentywood’s Lindsay Wangerin, who threw a 127-02.
Jada Nicholson cleared 5-00 in high jump, which was the top height reached, however Westby Grenora’s Farrah Garman completed the height in less attempts, giving Garman first and Nicholson second.
Marley Manoukian took fourth place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.70, which is her best time of the season. Manoukian cleared 7-06 in pole vault and took fifth. She took tenth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.52.
Manoukian, Schye, Smith and Stiles took fourth as the team’s short relay team. They had a time of 52.80.
Manoukian, Hailey Nicholson, Mary Grace Kalal and Schye ran a time of 4:32.17 in the long relay and took seventh at the meet.
Kalal took seventh in discus with a throw of 92-09. The throw is also Kalal’s new personal best.
Shay Garfield took eighth in discus with a throw of 90-01.
