Howard, Whitewater wins Girls Golf Invitational

There weren't any teams at the Malta Invitational amongst Whitewater, Glasgow, Saco and Wolf Point, due to the amount of golfers, which totaled eight, but if their were teams of two, Whitewater would've won with 203 strokes.

Lady Penguin Kayla Howard took first individually at the meet after posting a score of 97.

"It feels good," Kayla said. "I wish it would've been a lower score but I'll take."

It was her second time breaking 100 at Marian Hills.

"We don't have that many meets, so I'm glad to see that I'm improving at each meet," she said. "Hopefully by state, I'll break ninety and get under that."

She felt that the greens were pretty quick, but she felt confident because she practiced on them the day before.

"We try to come in two or three times a week," Howard said. "It makes a huge difference just knowing it's our home course."

Kaycee Howard took third after taking second in a three way chip off with Glasgow's Tamrah Pewitt, who won the chip off and took second place and Makkell Bailargeon who lost the chip off and took fourth.

Ke. Howard had a score of 106. She had 56 strokes in the front nine.

"My front nine could have been better," Kaycee said. "I got 50 on the back nine and improved a little bit. Usually the rougher holes are in the morning."

Ke. Howard admitted that lunch was a key factor of why she golfs better.

"Always after I eat, I golf better," she said noting that she had a burger.

Saco's Cyra Mears had a score of 62 through the first nine. She had a total of 122 strokes. Jamison Schaaf had 66 in the first nine and 134 total.

Last season Mears was with Malta and thus was a little more used to Marian Hills.

"It's just the same as it was with Malta," Mears said.

Schaaf mentioned that her score was the best she has had so far at Marian Hills

"The greens were slow and pretty good. The weather was really good," Schaaf said.
