American Legion to begin Auxiliary Poppy distribution

The month of May is Poppy Month and in order to help raise funds to help veterans and their families, Malta American Legion Auxiliary #57 will be distributing handmade, crepe paper poppies in the downtown area for the coming weeks.

"It's a nationwide fundraiser and we have been doing it for the last couple years," said Carolyn Schmoeckel, Malta American Legion's Secretary and Treasurer. "They are put together by disabled veterans throughout the country and we try to distribute about 200 each May leading up to the Memorial Day Parade in town.
