One Nation, Under God
Led by senior Jeret Warren, the Whitewater Penguins posted 32 points at the Jean Dreikosen Memorial last Saturday in Glasgow, giving them eighth as a team.
Warren posted a time of 11 minutes, and 14.11 seconds in the 3200 meter run at the JDM, which gave him one of his two first place finishes. He also won the 3200 with a time of 5:04.29.
Warren placed fourth in the 800, with a time of 2:17.69, which was one and a half seconds slower than his personal best.
He took fourth in the 800 (2:19), the 1600 (5:00) and the 3200 (11:12-90 season best) at the Malta Invitational.
Freshman Trace Simonson posted a new personal best in discus and took fourth in both meets. He left a mark at 113-03 at the JDM and 109-00 at the Malta Invitational.
Simonson took seventh in javelin at the JDM and eighth in Malta, leaving marks at 126-07 - the same distance - at each meet.
Simonson also placed sixth in the 400 at the JDM after posting a time of 58.34.
Freshman Cody Scheffelmear took sixth in the high jump at the JDM after clearing five feet even. He placed ninth the 300 hurdles at the same meet. He also hit a mark of 13-09 in long jump that day.
Trey Simanton placed sixth in both the 300 hurdles (48.30) and 110 hurdles (18.66), at the JDM. Both times were new personal bests. He nearly passed his best in the 400 at the meet, finishing at 62.59. His best is 62.14, a time he recorded at the Porcupine Invitational a couple of weeks ago.
At the Malta meet, Simanton didn't set new bests, but his technique was praised by his coaches after he ran the 300 hurdles.
"I wasn't really snapping my trail leg down," Simanton said. "I was just leaving it behind and not really doing anything with it."
He went on to say if he kept up the technique, his time should eventually go down in hurdle events.
Simonson, Scheffelmear, Simanton and Warren ran the long relay and took seventh at the JDM with a time of 4:12.04.
