Penguin girls third at Jean Dreikosen Memorial

The Whitewater Lady Penguins track teams had great outings at the Malta Athletic Club Invitational held last Tuesday, April 21 at Mustang Field and the Jean Dreikosen Memorial (JDM) in Glasgow last Saturday.

The Lady Penguins took third at the JDM, scoring 57 points and fourth at the Malta meet after scoring 43.

Kourtney Simonson had a great outing at both meets. She took first in the 800 meter run at both meets, posting a time of 2 minutes and 44.20 seconds in Malta and 2:37.65 in Glasgow.

Simonson ran the 200 for the first time in her career and posted an impressive time of 30.51.

She took second in the 400 in Malta with a time of 69.54 and third at the JDM, with a time of 66.26.

Simonson took fifth in the 1600 run in Malta with a time of 6:15.00.

Larimie Scheffelmear placed third in the 1600 at the JDM, recording a time of 6:30, which is her new personal best. She placed fifth in the 3200 with a time of 14:59.32 at the same meet.

Tatum Moore clocked new personal bests in the 100 meter dash and 100 hurdles in Malta. Her time in the 100 dash was 14.14 which gave her fourth and her time in the hurdles 18.04 which was good enough for third.

Moore posted times of 14.31 in the JDM 100 dash and 18.65 in the 100 hurdles which gave her second and third respectively.

As good of a runner as Moore is, she also fared well in the long jump, taking fifth in the event at the Malta Invitational with a leap of 13-07.50. She took tenth at the JDM after a leap of 13-06.

Keira Simonson, Scheffelmear, Ko. Simonson and Moore made up the short relay team that took fourth place at both meets. They ran a time of 59.34 in Malta and 59.18 at the JDM.

The long relay team, consisting of Scheffelmear, Alexandria Santillan, Serena Sanguins and Angel Tovar took third place at the JDM after crossing the finish line at 4:58.66.

Another long relay team consisting of Ko. Simonson, Moore, Tovar and Santillan took fourth at the Malta Meet with a time of 5:37.70.

Kayleigh Cummings placed fifth in the 3200 with a time of 16:52.80. She recorded a throw of 86-10 in javelin, which gave her sixth place. She took fourth at the JDM after a mark at 91-07, which is her new personal best.

She left a mark at 26-09 in shot put. She took fifth in the event at the JDM, with a throw of 27-08.50.

In discus, Cummings had a throw of 73-07 in Malta.

Keira Simonson posted her new personal best in discus during the Malta meet. The throw was a 85-10. She also had a throw of 78-07 at the JDM, which earned her fifth place.

Ke. Simonson also posted a new best in shot put after leaving a mark of 25-07.50 at the Malta meet. She had a throw of 25-00 at the JDM.

Tovar posted a 100 hurdle time of 22.54 at the Malta meet and 22.25 at the JDM which was good enough for sixth.

Tovar posted a new personal best in shot put at the JDM after leaving a mark of 24-05. She had posted a mark at 23-10 in Malta. She had a time of 35.24 in the 200 in Malta.

Serena Sanguins had a solid week, improving in three events last week.

Sanguins ran the 400 in 1:49.97 at the Jean Dreikosen and posted a time of 1:52.14 at the Malta Invitational.

She had a throw of 22-01.25 in shot put in Malta, which was a new best, until she threw a 22-6.75 in Glasgow.

Sanguins' last improvement happened in javelin, when she hit a mark of 49-06 in Malta. She hit 48-01 in Glasgow.

Santillan hit a new personal best in shot put at the Malta meet after leaving a mark at 23-3.50. She posted a throw of 69-02 in javelin at Malta.
