Headline: Make them welcome

Strangers who come to dwell in our city and become citizens should not be made to feel that they are to continue as strangers. It is your duty to get acquainted with them, broaden and extend their acquaintance and help them to understand that they have selected the right town. Tell them of its advantages as a place to reside.

Headline: Horse problem

A suit in Justice Brockway's court yesterday between Sheriff Shaw and Henry Broderson over the possession of a horse took up most of the day. It appears that several years ago Mr. Shaw had a horse stolen from him while in the ranch business and the horse was not located until a short time ago. Mr. Broderson purchased the horse from a man in the employee of Mr. Debbil and it had been sold several times before Mr. Broderson secured possession of it. The law gives a man who has a horse in his possession two or more years even though it was stolen and no effort has been made to discover the ownership. The court decided against the plaintiff. We understand the case will be carried up to the district court.

Eagles Badge presentation talks were given by Rev. Leon Hawley and Dr. W.T. Williams. The Life Ranking Badge was presented to Donald Johnson by John H. Lesselyong and the Star Ranking Badge to Jerry Hould by Kenneth Liskum.

Headline: School marauders promised punishment if detected

J.H. Lesselyong today announced that unknown persons had broken into the new school building several times recently and promised the marauders swift and severe punishment if their identities were discovered. Night prowlers have gained entrance by forcing window fastenings, he said, and while no school property has been missed as yet, the District Board does not propose to tolerate any continuation of having the building entered at night by unauthorized groups.

Yuh Don't Say: Bad record

A girl called on a farmer and offered her services as shepherdess.

"No, no, lassie," said the farmer. "I advertised for a Shepard, not a shepherdess."

"I know that, but surely there's no reason why the work should not be understood by a woman."

"Well, a woman tried it once and made a mess of it."

"Who was she?"

"Bo-peep."

Headline: Landusky-Hays softball game was a rough stuff

Landusky softballers played at Hays Sunday with a very good game going when disaster struck. Jim Kolp and Curt Hutton hit head on, both trying to catch a fly ball. Jim was the loser with a very bloody nose, a cut lip and a back tooth knocked out. Glen Kolczak took him to Malta to get his lip sewed up. Glen found out he had a broken thumb.
