Penguins improve at Nashua Meet

The Whitewater Penguins boys track team took eighth in the Porcupine Invitational hosted by Nashua at Glasgow School.

Senior Jeret Warren placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes and 17.90 seconds.

"It went pretty good, I was only two seconds off of my personal best," Warren said.

His personal best in the 800 is 2:15, something Warren knows he can surpass.

"I need to get a faster start and start my kick a little sooner," Warren said.

Warren also recorded his best time this season in the 1600, posting a time of 4:59.20, which could mean that he is on pace to catch his personal best of 4:42.87 which he set at the 2014 Class C State Championship Meet.

Knowing he would be running the 3200 later, Warren knew what he had to do to place.

"I just gotta stay focused, keep my pace up and hopefully have a good kick at the end," Warren said.

Warren placed fifth in the 3200 with a time of 12:27.80.

Freshman Trace Simonson had a solid meet, nearly placing in every event he attempted. Simonson took third in the Javelin throw leaving a mark at 129 feet, nine inches, a new personal best.

Simonson took fourth in discus with a throw of 99-08. He took seventh in the 200 meter dash (26.62 seconds), seventh in the 400 (58.34) and seventh in shot put with a throw of 36-10, which is his new personal best.

Freshman Trey Simanton finished fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 19.14. Simanton placed seventh in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.94. He posted a time of 62.14 in the 400.

Though it's not wrestling Simanton admitted that he is enjoying track.
