Proud of second year of divisionals, Lady Coyotes end year in Wolf Point

The season came to an end for the Dodson Lady Coyotes after the team lost to the eventual Eastern C champion Circle Warriors in the opening round of the Eastern C Divisionals in Wolf Point last Wednesday and then to Mon-Dak in the first round of elimination.

The Lady Coyotes lost 75-30 to Circle after a turnover plagued contest.

Dodson was led by Janessa Henry, who scored 17 points. Jacina Doney had six points and five rebounds. Shawnee KillEagle had four points. Donna Dale had two points and five rebounds. Kyla Racine had one point.

"We just didn't come out ready to play," Coach Brandy Hunter said. "We weren't in a scoring mentality. We didn't run our offense. We had a lot of turnovers. I think we were just okay with being in divisionals again instead of going with a purpose."

Coach Hunter acknowledged that her team is young and that was a major contributing factor.

In Dodson's 68-19 elimination loss to the Mon-Dak Thunder, Dodson was led by Jacina Doney who had eight points and five blocks.

Henry had seven points. Kyla Racine and Donna Dale scored two points a piece.

With all things that the 2014-15 season brought, the Lady Coyotes did good considering two of their better offensive players didn't finish with the team.

The Lady Coyotes are very young, but it seems as though they will come back hungry based on the last couple of seasons.

"For us to be able to make it to the divisional tournaments two years in a row, I think it's pretty impressive as an organization and speaks of what we've accomplished as a team.

"We didn't have the outscore we wanted but being the first (Dodson girls) team to ever be at divisionals two times in a row, I'm pretty impressed."

Coach Hunter had a few words of thanks.

"Obviously I couldn't do this job without my husband and my family," she said. "They put up with a lot from me.

"And also the parents of the players. They've given me their support. We've had some rough times but they've supported the team and pushed the girls and allowed them to be a part of the program."

She went on to thanks the staff of the school and the Phillips County News.

"That means a lot to the girls. It shows that people are interested in what their doing," Coach Hunter said.
