MALTA-Jean Katherine Olson, a retired teacher, died February 20, 2015 at the age of 86.

She was born March 12, 1928 to John and Nancy Horn at Boyden, Iowa. Just before her ninth birthday the family moved to a farm near Slayton, Minnesota and later moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school and went on to Mankato State Teachers College for two years. After college she taught 5th and 6th grades in Chandler, Minnesota and in Lake Wilson. On December 10, 1948 she married Boyd Carlson. They had two little girls before he died of polio in 1952. With her small daughters, she moved to Montana and taught at Valleytown School north of Saco where she met and married Don Olson in 1956. The following year she taught one term at TU School south of Lloyd before they moved to Malta where their two sons were born. Don died October 31, 1995.
Her favorite pastimes were writing letters, reading and growing African violets. Jean was living at the Country Home Assisted Living where she had many friends and received so much love and good care.
She was also preceded in death by sons Ric and Lynn. Survivors include, brother Harvey (Helen) Horn of Slayton, Minnesota; daughters, Caryl (Lyle) Stewart of St. Johns, Arizona, Marilyn (Ron) Robins of Billings, Montana; daughters-in-law; sisters-in-law, Lillian Olson of Malta and Mary Eklund of Saco, brother-in-law Cliff Hack, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
