One Nation, Under God
The amount of things going on in any given week in Phillips County Never ceases to amaze me. I hate to always dump on the former county I lived in, but you would be hard-pressed to find any events to attend in Mineral County. In fact, it in Mineral, it would take an entire year to match the events in one month inside Phillips County.
As a “newsman” having so many things going on in a given week it is both a blessing and a curse. There is always something to cover, but with so many things going on, it also means that some events don’t get covered (I like to take a couple hours off each week, including sleep.)
To those folks who held events this week that I couldn’t attend, I am sorry. Feel free to stop by this week and I will gladly write a follow-up story for you.
Which leads me to one event that I was able to attend. On Sunday night, the VFW/American Legion Auxiliary hosted the 12th Chili Cookoff and my daughter, Sophia, and I were able to attend. We had a great time and Sophia, smarty that she is, asked if she could write a column about the event and her favorite dish, as luck would have it, chili. Her thoughts are below.
Thanks and aloha.
