William "Bill" Edward Halver

HINOOK- William "Bill" Edward Halver 86; died February 13, 2015 at his home of natural causes.

Wake service were on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Chief Nosey. Funeral services were also at Chief Nosey, on Monday February 16, 2015. Interment will be at Ft. Harrison with military honors in Helena at a later date. Condolences for the family may be left at http://www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com

Bill was born to Russell and Mabel (Lightfield) Halver on March 26, 1928 in Havre. He graduated from Havre High School in 1945. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 where he served until he transferred to the U.S. Army in 1950, he was honorably discharged in September 1953. Bill married Catherine C. Stiffarm on November 8, 1950 in Havre. They had two sons William "Bill" and Ed Halver. They also adopted a daughter Cathy "Cat" Mountain Chief.

Bill worked for the Blaine County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff for the Harlem and Chinook areas for 24 years. After he retired from the sheriff's department they bought a ranch on the south east corner of Ft. Belknap where he worked until health issues forced them to retire and sell the ranch. They then moved to Chinook.

Once they retired, they did a little travelling, but always looked forward to being home. His favorite past time was watching old western movies at home on television.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Mabel Halver, his wife Catherine Halver (2014). He is survived by his two sons Bill (Melit Flynn) of Harlem and Ed of Shelby and Daughter Cathy Mountain Chief; three grandchildren, Lynn Marie, Nichole, and Christopher; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Jade.
