Darrell Selmer Stianson

Early on the morning of January 26, 2015, Darrell Selmer Stianson passed away at his home on the farm in the Readlyn District (Saskatchewan), he was 78 years old.

Darrell was born August 20, 1936 at the Bengough, Saskatchewan Hospital. He was the eldest of 7 children, three brothers and three sisters. He graduated from Grade 8 from the MiddleValley School, then worked various construction jobs. In 1955 Darrell attended the Western College of Welding in Regina, Saskatchewan and received his Welding Certificate on Dec. 16 1955, he was then employed at the Ormiston Salt Mine. Darrell married Gail Irvin July 28, 1961 and they moved into the town of Ormiston, Saskatchewan and started their family.

In 1965 they moved to the Bate's homestead in the Readlyn District where he farmed until the present, he took a lot of pride in his farm and his line of equipment.

Darrell enjoyed playing ball in the summer months, curling and snowmobiling were his winter-time activities. Dancing was another favored past time, as polka fests and barn dances became part of his social life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Coffee time with friends and neighbors was a highlight!

Darrell was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1971 and this led to kidney failure 3 and a half years ago, dialysis three times a week became a reality.

Darrell was predeceased by his wife Gail (Irvin) and parents Selmer and Lily; father-in-law Jack Irvin; niece Nicole Larson and nephew Kevin Covlin. Darrell is survived by three daughters: Denise (Clinton) Cox, Danette (Bruce) Montgomery and Diane (Kevin) McGregor, 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special friend, Margaret Lix; siblings: Norman (Carol), Margaret (Frank) Covlin, Howard (Gail), Irene (Alvin) Larson, Stanley (Darlene), Jean (John) Howden, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Service was held Monday, February 2, 2015, at St. George's Parish Hall, Assiniboia, Sask. Pastor Marvin Seaborg officiated. Tribute was given by daughter, Denise. Honorary Pallbearers were his granddaughters: Becky Haider, Stephanie Montgomery, Chalsey Montgomery, Amy Kuntsi, Theresa Bauer, Mandy Verhaeghe, Lindsey Verhaeghe, Calli Lear, and Macey Cox. Pallbearers were grandsons: Darwin Montgomery, Christopher Montgomery, Colin Montgomery, Dustin Haider, K. C. Verhaeghe, J. D. Verhaeghe, Rob Bauer, and Derek Lear. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, Sask.
