Little Guy Wrestlers kick off season in Stanford

Here are the results from the Stanford Little Guy Wrestling event held last Saturday February 4.

Straud Sims 4-0, Skylar Gilkerson 0-3, Spencer Gibbs 3-0, Tye Jones 3-0, Kaden Bishop 0-3, Hunter Missildine 3-0, Kevin Missildine 1-2, Kohner Schipman 3-0, Cash Salsbury 3-1.

The event was the first event of the season for the Malta little guy grapplers.

A few of the Little Guy Wrestlers can be seen from time to time taking notes from the Malta High School wrestlers.

While at a practice the PCN caught up with Kohner Schipman who won first place at last year’s Little Guy State Tournament.

Schipman thought his first meet went well.

“I think I did good and I think I wrestled hard,” Schipman said.

Schipman is wrestling in the eight and under 57 pound class.

“What I love so much about wrestling is that we get to rough house,” Schipman said.

His father, Coach Jessie Schipman noted that a little rough housing is allowed in their home but not too much, because momma Schipman doesn’t like it too much.

When you have more than one boy in the house, wrestling is almost unavoidable.

Kohner also has an older brother on Malta’s wrestling team. Keenan a sophomore at Malta High has faced off against Kohner and has lost.

“My favorite wrestling move is the butcher,” Kohner said.

Kohner also knows what he needs to do to win another state title.

“I’m gonna take him down when he’s on his hands and knees and gonna get in front of him, push him down and do a half (nelson) on him,” Kohner said.
