M-ettes sweep Fergus; To face Rocky Boy and Roundup

The Malta M-ettes continued their dominant season smashing both Wolf Point and Fergus for the second time this year.

Last Tuesday, January 27, Malta defeated Class A’s Fergus Lady Eagles 61-35.

The team was led by Hailey Nicholson who had 18 points, six steals, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Sophia Stiles had 15 points, three steals and four rebounds.

Darby Schye had 11 points, six rebounds.

Markelle Lett had six points. Marley Manoukian had five points.

Kelsey Kuehn had seven rebounds and two points. Jada Nicholson and Adrianna Bibeau also had two points in the win.

Malta simply dominated Fergus, scoring 21 points off of 24 forced turnovers.

Malta hit 27 of 57 shots (47 percent), while Fergus struggled only hitting 10 of 41 shots (24 percent).

In their 69-42 victory against the Lady Wolves in Wolf Point, Sophia Stiles exploded for 28 points.

Hailey Nicholson had 16 points in the win. Schye and Lett and 8 points a piece. Jada Nicholson added three points. Manoukian, Kuehn and Rebecca Smith had 2 points a piece.

The first quarter ended in a deadlock, with both teams scoring nine points.

It wouldn’t stay locked for long as Malta’s defense tightened it’s grip in the second quarter, only giving up 12 points, while they put out 26 points offensively.

Malta then out-scored Wolf Point 18-10 in the third quarter, bringing the score total to 53-31 at the end of the third.

Malta let up the pressure scoring 16 in the four quarter while giving up only 11 points.

While not quite as eager to blowout Rocky Boy as the M-ettes were earlier in the year, the M-ettes will still fight hard to defeat Rocky Boy the second time this season on Friday.

The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The M-ettes will then take on the Roundup Lady Panthers on Saturday.

The last time these teams met, Malta underestimated Roundup and the Lady Panthers gave Malta a closer game than they expected.

The game against Roundup is in Malta Saturday night at 4 p.m.
