Rev. N. L. Otterstad will hold services at the Mrs. Carl Dyrdahl residence, north of Lovejoy, Sunday, February 7 at 11 a.m. The Norwegian language will be spoken and all are welcome.
Comedies always make a hit in Malta and the Orpheum supplies many fines ones. A screamer was put over Saturday evening when Lee Beggsas “Father” and “Father’s Timepiece” chased his ticker all over the town. Certain well-known laughs were plainly evident above the general chorus of the audience.
Yesterday morning the government thermometer registered 37 degrees below. This is some cold snap.
A young man giving his name as Fred Schneider was brought in Sunday evening from the Missouri River Country and taken to Glasgow the same evening by Sheriff Powell being charged with horse stealing. On the 16th of this month Everrett Thompson missed a horse, saddle and bridle from the Marvin Jones Ranch and at once started out to find the guilty party. The guilty party is about seventeen years old and a right good spanking might be better for his future welfare than a term in the penitentiary.

Headline: 160 women placed on county jury list
The 1940 Phillips County jury list contains the names of approximately 1,700 persons in the county, 160 of them being women who are eligible for district court duty, by the jury commission, D.W. McNutt, clerk of court announces.
Certification by the jury commission, which consists of S.A. Simonson, chairman of the county board of commissioners; Mr. R. Nelson, county treasurer, and Edw. N. Erikson, county assessor, has been completed as required by law, he said.
The commission took the names from the last assessment roll of the county which this year for the first time includes women as well as men.
Headline: Harlem Newspaper writes of boost for Malta Student Body
It is reported by the group at the Malta-Harlem game Friday night at Malta, that Malta High School has the best “yelling section” they have seen.
Their yells are not slams to the losing team and their spirit is very fine.
They have three yell leaders, two girls and a boy. The group claps together perfectly and is a really fine group of yellers. – Harlem News.

Alert boys at Saco had averted a fire which might have destroyed the Big Dome Hotel at Saco.
Also, A Phillips County Young Farmers group had been organized. Charter members were George Green, Bill and George French, Lynn Boothe, Jim Schumacher, Don Waters, Harley Waters, Elwin Cole, Wayne Jacobs and Willie Johannesen.
Headline: Loring People enjoy winter sports activities
A group of Loringites were out tobogganing Sunday afternoon. Thee toboggans were busy hauling Mr. and Mrs. Jim LaPlante and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Flansaas and family, MR. and Mrs. E. M. Lovejoy, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Compton, Mr. and Mrs. Lovejoy, Arlene Crasco and Rena and Danny Dyrdahl. Mrs. E. M. Lovejoy had never ridden on a toboggan before and had the experience of taking a spill. After the tobogganing they all went to the Glen Lovejoy home. The children watched the Wizard of Oz on TV and the adults played cards after which Mrs. Lovejoy served lunch.

Headline: Fishing Derby Considered
Walleyes Unlimited of Montana has proposed to hold a Walleyes Unlimited Fort Peck Tournament on June 23-24, 1990 at Fort Peck Reservoir. The Montana Fish and Game Commission will consider the proposal at its February meeting.
At least 75 teams are expected to compete for a cash prize of 80 percent of the entry fees awarded to that team catching the heaviest aggregate weight of 10 walleye. The proposed fee is $50 for a two-person team.

Headline: Malta Plumbing Cited for Historic Restoration
Malta Plumbing and Heating was recently awarded a 2004 Building Excellence Award Honorable Mention from the Montana Contractor’s Association in the Best Historic Renovation Category for the company’s work at the Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park.
