Panthers Basketball: Saco-Whitewater wins series against Nashua; Face Lions this Friday

The Saco-Whitewater Panthers have already matched their win total from last season after defeating the Nashua Porcupines 62-52 in Whitewater last Friday.

The team was led by freshman Trace Simonson who scored 26 points, 18 of which came in the second half.

Simonson showed range, knocking down three treys in the win. He was also 9 for 11 behind the charity stripe.

Chance Love scored 19 points.

Kane Engel knocked down three treys and had 11 points.

Chris DePuydt had three points. Channing Mavencamp had two points and Jeret Warren added one point.

The Panthers and Porcupines stayed pretty close in this one through three quarters. The teams were dead even at Half-time at 25-25.

The difference for the teams in the second half was Saco-Whitewater’s ability to get to the free throw line . The team was 15 for 21 in the second half, while Nashua was four for four, the team only got to the line twice in the second half.

Nashua was led by Lane Nickels, who scored 23 points.

Brayden Jacobs and Ryan Scanlan scored 10 points a piece.

The Panthers lost their next game to the Scobey Spartans 50-29.

Jeret Warren led the team with nine points.

DePuydt had six points. Simonson had three points.

The Panthers lost to a tough team in Scobey, but are proving they are not anywhere near the bottom of the 3C district anymore.

The growth of their second year players has proven effective against teams like Dodson and Nashua, the team will need to grow more if they want to make it into the Eastern C divisional tournament in late February.

The team will face a tough challenge against Lustre Christian this Friday in Saco. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
