Kiwanis Club of Malta congratulated on 75 years of service

Ann Motichka, president of the Kiwanis Club of Malta, recently received a letter of congratulations from John Burton, president of Kiwanis International.

The letter was sent to the Malta club for their continued 75 years of community service. While the Malta Kiwanis celebrates their 75th birthday this year, the national organization will be celebrating their centennial in Indianapolis, Indiana in June.

Kiwanis is an international organization of volunteers, “dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.” Kiwanis is a nonprofit organization not connected with any political or religious group.

The Malta Kiwanis members support the Key Club, Builders Club, BUG awards, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, Missoula Children’s Theater, Distinguished Young Women of Phillips County, Boys and Girls State, MHS speech meet, health fair breakfast, and various leadership camps and conventions for high school students. They collect and sort Campbell soup coupons and Box Tops for Education to benefit the elementary school. During the Christmas season, members participate in Take –A-Child-Shopping, the Angel Program, and collecting funds for the Salvation Army with their red kettle drive.

As part of Kiwanis International, funds are being raised for the ELIMINATE Project, which hopes to prevent maternal and neonatal tetanus among new babies and mothers in very poor countries. The main fundraiser for the Malta Kiwanis is the sale of their famous juicy hamburgers and homemade French fries at the car show in early June. Funds for their programs are also raised through sports concessions and collecting and recycling used ink cartridges.

The Malta Kiwanis plan to continue to volunteer and serve the youth of this community for many years to come. The club, which meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at West Side Café, welcomes new members. It should be noted that during its 75 years of community service, the late Johnny Richardson was an active member for over forty years, which is a local club record. Happy 75th Birthday to Malta Kiwanis. May you continue to serve for many more years.
