One Nation, Under God
The Phillips County Museum is open Monday through Saturday through the month of December. Come in and visit us!
Ted and Norma Kelly stepped through our doors last week with a great bunch of old pictures. One is a picture of what we know today as the “Community Church” though in the picture it has an old I.O.O.F. 1818 sign on the top of the building. Can anyone tell us when it first began to be known as the I.O.O.F. building? Was it built for that purpose? The Enterprise paper, July 15, 1908, had an ad saying “the IOOF meeting would be held on Wednesday evening.” The ad did not say where it was held at that time.
Another picture was of a “Homestead Locators Schuster & Stevens” building. The Enterprise July 28, 1909 edition tells of a new partnership being formed between Schuster and Stevens and the erection of a new building for that purpose. They ask their friends to leave with them samples of their grain, vegetables, etc. for the purpose of exhibition.
If you have old photos you have questions about please bring them in and we will try to help you find information. Until next week …enjoy the nice weather. Members of the PC Historical Society will find a newsletter in their mail this week!
