Virginia was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. She attended schools, was a member of the Methodist church and sang on the choir. She had many loves and interests in her youth and young adult life while in Baltimore. She loved sailing with her family, going to the movies, was on a bowling league with her friends and rescuing animals. She made many lasting and life long friendships that she cherished and stayed in contact with over the years.

In 1956, Virginia met George Hansonl who was stationed in the Army. They soon married and with his commitment to the Army came several moves; first to Louisiana and then back to Baltimore where he finished his duty. They moved to Montana in 1971 where they later divorced. To their marriage they had three children.

Virginia lived in several different towns in Montana, Great Falls, Vaughn, Sidney and Glasgow before settling down in Malta.

After a while she met and married Larry Thomson. They lived on the farm south of Malta and Virginia couldn't be happier being surrounded by animals. She had such a love and deep compassion for animals of all kinds but especially pigs. Pigs were a passion and could be found in every room of Virginia's home, many were gifts from family and friends. Several years later Virginia & Larry divorced and Virginia moved back into Malta.

She had touched many lives through the different positions she held or volunteered for. She was a Drug, Alcohol and Abuse Counselor, worked as a case manager for the Welfare Department, waitress and Volunteered at the Malta Food Bank.

Virginia loved working with her hands and even though she didn't give herself credit she was very talented. It was evident in her paintings, clay sculptures, ceramics and other crafts.

Family was important to Virginia and she had a special bond with each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of each one and always tried to encourage each one. She loved to visit on the phone with her brother Neil who lives in Maryland and enjoyed each time her special friend Alvina Doucette stopped in for a visit.

She is survived by her children: Kathy (Beu) Winkel, Judy Whitlock and Sean (Melodee) Kavanaugh. Grandchildren: Stephanie Hurd, Natalie, Naylene Winkel, Ronni Winkel & Misty Iron Leggins; Six Great-Grandchildren: Brother: Neil (Dawn) Kavanaugh & Numerous Nieces & Nephews.
