The Malta M-ettes volleyball team ended it's season after going the deepest it has been in the last twenty plus years, finishing third in the Northern B division.
The team made it all the way to the consolation round, which if won would have taken the team to state, however the Shelby Coyotes proved to be too much defeating Malta for the second time in the tournament and giving the M-ettes third place overall.
The Choteau Bulldogs would eventually defeat Shelby for the divisional crown in the championship game.
Before Malta knocked into the elimination bracket, the team took out Fairfield in the opening round. The scores were 25-23, 25-23, 16-25 and 26-24.
Malta was led by senior Larimie Scheffelmear, who led the team in kills, with 14 of 45.
Seniors Darby Schye and Kelsey Kuehn both had three blocks a piece in the effort. The team had 11 total.
Libero Kourtney Simonson led the team in digs with 20 of 33.
Markelle Lett led the team in assists, racking up 17 of 34. Lett also led in aces with two of four.
Though Fairfield had 18 blocks, led by Liz Klinker who had nine, Malta's offense was too much forcing Fairfield to dig seventy times total.
The next Match Malta had was against Shelby, who defeated Malta in four sets (25-22, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-23).
Malta was led by Lett, who had 12 kills. Schye had 10. The team recorded 38 total.
Lett also led in aces, with three of five total.
Schye had four of 12 blocks, while junior Kaitlyn Smith had three of her own.
The team had 95 digs and were led by Simonson, who had 21.
Kuehn led in assists with 11 of 30.
Facing elimination, Malta knocked out fellow 2B foe Plentywood in three matches, in their first of two games Friday.
The scores of that game were 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23.
Malta was led by Scheffelmear who had 10 kills of 32.
Schye led the team in blocks with four of 10.
Lett had two aces and also led in assists with 15 of 27.
Simonson led the team in digs posting 15 of 66.
Malta then faced Fairfield for the second time in the tourney and the result was still the same as Malta proved to be superior in four games. The scores were 25-17, 12-25, 28-26 and 25-22.
Malta was led by Schye who had nine kills and five blocks.
Simonson had 25 digs. The team had 98.
Smith led the team in aces with six.
Lett led in assists, with 21 of 31.
In their last match of the year against Shelby, Malta was eliminated in three matches on Saturday.
Scheffelmear led the team with 12 kills of 28. She also had the teams lone block.
Simonson had 14 digs out of 56 total.
Lett led in assists, with 14 and Smith recorded the teams only aces, with two total.
