One Nation, Under God
I can be a knucklehead sometimes….
I wouldn’t advise anyone with a newborn to make an 18 hour trip anywhere. But my wife Susan and I did last weekend as we traveled to my hometown for my one-week vacation.
To my son’s credit, he did really well considering, he strongly hates his car seat in the first place.
What made the trip a little more stressful, was the fact that we only stopped to gas up, change the baby or walk off our tiredness in various Walmart locations in North Dakota and Minnesota.
We didn’t dare stop in Wisconsin, because that place gives me the creeps.
On our journey to Chicagoland, we hit Wisconsin at around 2 a.m. and we could see nothing but fog and deer (dead or alive).
The fog was so bad, I drove behind semi trucks as deer shields.
Eventually we did make it out of that God forsaken land only to hit the I-90 and it’s construction zone…
There is nothing that will keep you more awake after an all-nighter than Chicago traffic and a screaming baby. That was rough.
Nonetheless we made it to my hometown and I’m proud to say, it’s better than I remember. We had a good time.
It was really something to see PJ interact with my side of the family.
I honestly thought he would be afraid of African Americans, because I may or may not be the only one here.
They say we all look alike… Since I’ve been here, I’ve been confused with Lil Wayne, a drug dealer and an NFL player.
Though the last one was flattering, contrary to popular belief we don’t all look alike.
While on vacation, PJ did meet two people that did look alike, his 18-month cousins Ava and Autumn. I believe they were the first set of twins that he has ever seen. He was literally seeing double.
Speaking of twins, I have got to say a pair of my favorite twins are Kaycee and Kayla Howard, they are great athletes at every sport they play and are good kids in general, from what I’ve seen.
I’m proud to say I can sometimes tell them a part... A task that many fail at.
Other than having different numbers, the twins do subtle things to help, for instance Kaycee wears a black hair tie, while Kayla wears a pink one... Or one may wear her hair in a braid, etc.
For the last four months PJ has been eating pretty much the same thing every single meal.
I’m proud to announce, on his first trip to Chicago, PJ started eating baby food… His first victim was a container of peas, compliments of Gerber.
Since then he has eaten Squash, sweet potatoes and green beans.
That kid is extremely happy when he’s got anything in his mouth, but don’t you dare take it away…. He has a convincing way of showing you his displeasure. (He is still mad at me for taking away his bottle last week. He wants every drop.)
He gets it from me, the same knucklehead, who tried the Knucklehead Challenge (It’s a real thing.)
That challenge is a five pound chili cheese dog Challenge at Parker’s restaurant in Sacramento California... More on that next week.
