Headline: Phillips County Assured

Since the filing of the petitions praying for the new county of Phillips to be organized out of part of Valley and Blaine Counties, there has been little or no trouble experienced until the first of this week, when the fact was brought to the notice of the Malta people by some of the fair minded citizens of Saco that a withdrawal or remonstrance petition had been circulated. A number of the representative businessmen of this city called on the people of Saco Monday night to learn the cause of the withdrawal. The people of Saco, with the exception of one or two, are in favor of the new county, but it is like leaving a bad apple in with a box of good ones, they will spoil unless the rotten one is removed. These two or three howlers, two from Saco and one from Beaverton, which is in the other county, sent up the wail: high taxes, no roads, bonded indebtedness, political strength killed and trade conditions cut.
