M-ette Volleyball: Malta downs Wolf Point in three matches; eyeing Plentywood and Harlem

The Malta M-ettes went into Wolf Point last week, and swept the Wolf Point Wolves. The Varsity team won in three games (25-8, 25-17 and 25-20). The Junior Varsity won in five (20-25, 24-26, 15-11, 15-5 and 15-3) and C-Squad also in five (20-25, 25-22, 9-15, 15-12 and 15-13.)

In the Varsity win, senior Darby Schye brought her A game, blocking a team high four kills out of 11, while giving Malta eight of 19 kills.

Senior Markelle Lett also shined in the victory posting 11 of the team's 17 assists. She also tied Kourtney Simonson, for the team lead in digs. Both had 8 of the teams' 38.

Adrianna "Abba" Bibeau had four of 12 team aces.

"They were mentally ready for Wolf Point," said M-ette Head Coach Julia Tatafu. "We prepared for them all week and once the girls stepped on the court, they were focused and were ready to go."

She went on to say that the team never took anything for granted.

"Even after that first set, when we could have easily took them for granted they didn't," said Coach Tatafu. "It was a good game for us and I'm so proud of them."

Tatafu noted that after seeing the other teams win it in five, the Varsity squad said they wanted to defeat them in three. And that's exactly what they did.

"Our seniors did a great job leading the team again and we got focused and regrouped after the Dickinson tournament," Coach Tatafu said. "We work on things we needed to work on and it was a good week of practice and it showed."

Malta will face Harlem on Friday and Plentywood on Saturday.

It's Plentywood's homecoming day on Saturday, which should make for a tougher game for the M-ettes.

"It's going to be a little more difficult to beat them on their homecourt but we know what we need to do," Coach Tatafu said. "We need strong blocks and we need to be consistant."

She went on to say that the team needs to step on the court ready each set.

"Each play does matter," she said. "The team that makes the least mistakes (will win.)"

Tatafu also said Harlem isn't a team to overlook, they are a team that serves hard and each time Malta plays the Wildcats, they improve.

"We just gotta make sure that we're ready for anything with them," Coach Tatafu said.

She noted that they don't always attack on the third hit.

"Sometimes my girls have a tendency to not be ready for that, so we talked about that," Coach Tatafu said.

She also said that this week is a big week for the team and she knows that the team is excited and hopefully that the week will go in their favor.

The game against Harlem starts Friday at 4:00 p.m. in Malta.

Their game in Plentywood starts at 1:00 p.m. in Plentywood.

The JV and C-Squads will also see action against SacoHinsdale in Malta on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
