Sights set to Glasgow for the Game of the Year

Fresh off of a huge 44-0 win against the Plentywood Wildcats on Friday, Malta now has their sights on the Glasgow Scotties who are fresh off of a 59-0 win against Harlem.

Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m.

This game is definitely the biggest game of the year for Malta, who are definitely underdogs to Glasgow who is ranked by many as first in Class B football.

Glasgow is a team that has proven it can win on the ground or through the air.

In their latest victory, Glasgow scored seven rushing touchdowns and two passing.

Junior Dallas Capdeville was responsible for the first three touchdowns, Senior Benji Phillips added two more.

Capdeville is their primary running back, but he has been known to play tight end during some plays.

When Capdeville is in at tight end, look for Parker Kulczyk in the backfield.

Another player to look out for is Tyler Roness, the team's fullback/linebacker who really has a nose for the football and is used a lot to spring running backs on their offense.

Though one of the team's best offensive players tight end Keil Krumweide has been battling an injury, if there were a game to get ready to play, it would be against the Mustangs.

Quarterback Jason Thibault's game is similar to Jase Galt's as both teams run an I-formation offense but like to roll their quarterbacks to the outside.

"I think we gotta play smart and watch their pass," Malta half-back Quintan Boos told the PCN. "They got good players like Chase Fossum and Jason Thibault. We have to follow them wherever they go."

Coach Nick Oxarart emphasized what Boos said and added that Glasgow is well coached and the Scotties are a team that doesn't make mistakes.

"They are a lot like Huntley, they just don't make mistakes and you have to play real well," Coach Oxarart said. "They run pass fakes real well and run fakes and counter plays. We gotta have our guys just doing their assignments and not biting at their fakes."

Their stingy defense gave up only 43 yards total and no score to speak of.

Glasgow will give Malta a couple of looks, including, but not limited to a 4-4 front and 3-5.

"I think if we start with five yard runs that will start to open up the pass game a lot better and that will open up our run game," Boos told the PCN.

Though Glasgow is good, Malta has been playing with a lot of confidence since their first game and they are looking to upset Glasgow, who has been sitting on top of the 2B since last season after they defeated Malta 38-6 last season.

"Glasgow's going to be a real physical test for us and a real challenge," Coach Oxarart said. "They're number two in the state, so we're going to have to have a flawless game to compete with them."

Malta had a few more penalties than Coach Oxarart wanted but that didn't stop them from decimating the Plentywood Wildcats 44-0 in Plentywood last Friday.

"It feels good because they pretty much took our playoff spot last year," Malta half back Quintan Boos told the PCN. "I think we were really fired up to put the pound on em'."

The beatdown that started with Boos tackling RJ Becker, who then coughed up the ball. Senior Tyler Ost scooped it up and Malta was at the 27.

"It was good to have our guys clicking on all cylinders," Coach Oxarart said. "To have a turnover right away in the ball game, gave us some momentum. I told our guys don't let up, keep after it and they did."

The Mustangs answered their coach with a 403 yards effort on offense and a defense that allowed only 64 total yards.

On second down after an incomplete pass, Quintan Boos couldn't be stopped as he rushed in for the first touchdown from 27 yards out.

On Malta's next possession Boos gained a first down after the team faced fourth. Later in the drive he would hit pay dirt again, this time from six yards out.

"We got a couple of quick scores and built so much momentum that Plentywood couldn't seem to overcome," said Coach Oxarart. "Our guys kept rolling with it."

Quarterback Jase Galt would also light up the scoreboard as he connected with Jordan Pierce in the first quarter for a 16 yard touchdown.

He threw a great game, going 10-14 for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

"He was over 100 yards passing and hit seven different receivers," Coach Oxarart said. "I really like that stat, where he's spreading the ball out, so he's not focusing on the ball to one guy."

He went on to say that the team has a lot of receivers that can catch the football and Galt did a great job distributing the ball.

Though a lot of plays are set to get Galt out into space, He is more than confident to sit in the pocket and make throws, something that wasn't happening last year.

"I think we came out and played like we needed to and all the linemen were on their blocks and that really opened up our passing game," Boos said.

Backup running backs Colin Holman, Allen Williamson and Kolbe Murray all saw time and each of them added to the noise, scoring touchdowns on the ground.

Colin Holman was the first backup to score from 13 yards out.

Williamson has a knack for making big plays and breaking tackles as he did on his 76
