The Malta M-ettes had a bittersweet weekend at the Dickinson Invitational last Friday and Saturday.
They lost all of their pool play games and the opening tournament game, but ultimately the team punched it’s ticket to the consolation game after defeating Sidney. They ended up losing to the Beach Lady Buccaneers, a North Dakota 7B team, that is fourth of 12 teams in that region.
The scores of the consolation game were 20-25, 25-22 and 23-25.
Kaitlyn Smith led Malta’s offense with eight kills of the team’s 32.
Markelle Lett led the team in assists with 11 of 22. She also tied Adrianna Bibeau for the team lead in aces with three. The team had 11 total.
Kourtney Simonson the team’s libero led the team in digs with 19 of the team’s 62.
Darby Schye had three blocks of the team’s eight.
The lone win against Sidney had scores of 25-12, 24-26 and 25-18.
Larimie Scheffelmear led the offensive effort with 10 of 20 team kills.
Bibeau had five of 11 team aces.
Simonson had nine of the team’s 37 digs.
Lett had eight of 18 assists.
Schye had three blocks of seven.
They also lost to Hedinger in the opening round of the tournament had scores of 25-10, 22-25 and 23-25.
Simonson had 15 digs of 51.
Schye had 10 of 30 team kills.
Lett had 12 of 21 team assists.
Mary Kalal had six of 12 aces.
Larimie Scheffelmear led the block party, with four of nine blocks.
In their opening pool play game, Linton defeated Malta 17-25, 6-25 and 23-25.
In their second game of pool Century defeated Malta 4-25, 9-25 and 13-25.
The final pool play game included a loss to Trinity, who won 14-25, 19-25 and 19-25.
The team will square off against Wolf Point tomorrow in Wolf Point at 4:00 p.m.
They will then travel to Chinook on Tuesday to face the Sugarbeeters. The games start at 4:30 p.m.
