Marilyn Joyce Shockley Kuhr Allen was born in Chinook, Montana on May 17, 1942 to Noble Wilson Shockley and Jennie Ethel (Richmond) Shockley. She was delivered by Dr. David Almus and Midwife/Nurse Mrs. J.S. McKay, weighing in at 9 pounds and ¾ ounce.
Marilyn attended school in Chinook Montana. She married Richard Conrad Kuhr in July of 1959. Marilyn was blessed with four beautiful daughters, Debi Li Kuhr Whitaker, Teri Lynn Kuhr, Tami Sue Kuhr, and Gracie Ann Kuhr Beto. Marilyn was further blessed with seven grandchildren, Jenny Jo, Amber Lee, Nicole Marie, Raymond Allen, Kyle jon, Taylor jay, and Hunter jordan. She also has 10 great grandchildren, Derek, Mya, Abbygail, Brenna Ray, Shelby Grace, Lindsay Lynn, Jaxton, Jace, Skyler, and Ella Grace.
Marilyn worked hard all of her life, when able, and held a variety of jobs to include cooking, waitressing, highway construction flagger, desk jobs, cleaning, and caretaking for others, and her last job was as a Foster Grandparent for the Jim Darcy Elementary School in Helena. She loved working with the kids and Marilyn believed that she missed her calling and should have been a teacher. “She would have made an excellent teacher!”
Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, dancing, decorating, and going to rummage sales. She also enjoyed planting flowers in the spring with amazing results;(her sunflowers being a favorite. Marilyn was very active in whichever kids were participating in sports or other activities, and loved every minute of this.
Marilyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura May Shockley and Grace Morrison, her parents, Noble and Jenny Shockley, a grandson Daniel Ryan, and a daughter, Teri Lynn Kuhr.
Marilyn is survived by three daughters, Debi Whitaker (Wes), Tami Kuhr, and Gracie Beto (Lance); Her 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; brothers; John Shockley (Harriet), Robert “Bob” Shockley (Pat), Richard “Butch” Shockley (Alice) and many nieces and nephews that she also loved in such a special way.
A memorial service celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4th, 2014 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service in the social hall at the funeral home.
