Wildfire Volleyball: Back to basics after dropping two

The Saco-Hinsdale Wildfire volleyball team lived up to their name last Thursday as they served up some heat against the Brockton Lady Warriors and defeated them in three games(26-24, 25-17 and 25-18). They dropped a game the following night against Fairview (10-25, 14-25 and 11-25).

Of the 24 kills the Wildfire had, both Courtney Capdeville and Alana Malmend had seven a piece, sharing the team lead.

Hannah Whitaker had five consecutive aces to start the third set, she had three more throughout the game giving her eight of 18 team aces.

"I've been playing volleyball for six years and I've been serving ever since," Hanna Whitaker said when asked how she learned how to serve so well. "It just comes natural."

Coach Kathy Siroky added that lots of repetitions in practice also has gone a long way.

"She has had a nice serve since we were seventh graders," Capdeville added.

Delaney Beil had 11 of 13 assists in the win.

The three had three blocks. Two of those blocks were from Capdeville and one from Bailey Funk.

Capdeville also led the Wildfire in digs, with six of nine.

"There were parts of the game where we were a little sloppy, but then we would get back into it, get in our flow and it went really well," Wildfire spiker Courtney Capdeville said about the win.

One of the ways that Capdeville believes the team can improve is by playing more together.

"We have a bunch of (younger players)," she said. "Once we get into our flow we will do great because they are great athletes."

Whitaker realizes the importance of conference games, like their win against Brockton.

"It is very important to get these conference wins," she said. "(How we rank) of course depends on how we play and we want to be first."

Capdeville is also well aware that the team will need to bring their A-game against 3-C opponents and can't afford another loss in the conference.

"We lost a big one to Nashua last weekend and that kind of hurt us but we're looking forward to play them again."

Though Saco-Hinsdale won the only conference game they had that week, they lost the night game, the following night to the Fairview Warriors in three
