Walk to School Day slated for October 8 at Malta Elementary

The Malta Trails is hosting a Walk and Bike to School Day at Malta Elementary on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:30 a.m. before school starts.

There will be Malta Trails volunteers one block away, on every block, near Malta Elementary School that day and if students walk or bike to school on that day they will be rewarded with a sucker and a pin.

The Malta Trails sponsored Walk to School Day is in conjunction with the International festivity that involves over 40 countries participating in the event on the same day. The program was started in 1997 as a one-day event to celebrate safe routes to schools. Since that time, schools from all 50 states participate in the event each October in attempts to promote healthier habits, a cleaner environment and safety through educational programs.

Students at Malta Elementary who participate in Walk to School Day will join over 2,400 other schools in the nation who will celebrate the day and one of seven schools in Montana – this is the first year Malta will participate.
