Back to basics after dropping two

The Saco-Hinsdale Wildfire started the season off with a roar, winning their first two games.

This past week was different as they saw tougher opponents Poplar and Nashua and eventually lost the matches.

In Thursday’s loss to Class B’s Poplar Indians, Saco-Hinsdale lost close matches with scores of 19-25, 21-25 and 20-25.

Mickayla Johnson, who had 7 of 17 team kills, led the team’s offense.

Delaney Beil had 10 of 11 team assists, while Courtney Capdeville had nine of 23 team digs and both team blocks.

Hannah Whitaker had four aces, out of eight team aces.

In their loss the following night to Nashua, Saco-Hinsdale put up a tough fight, but eventually ran out of steam.

The team won the first game 25-21 and lost the following three games, 20-25, 18-25 and 13-25.

The team had 29 kills, with Jada Sudbrack nailing down eight.

Beil had eight of 18 assists.

Capdeville and Casity Boucher had eight digs a piece. The team had a total of 30.

Capdeville, Sudbrack and Beil each had two aces, with the team having eight total.

The team will set their sights to Brockton and Fairview this week.

Both teams were competitors last year and will present a tough task for the Wildfire, however if the team can play disciplined and can strengthen their passing game, Wildfire Head Coach Kathy Siroky believes the team can bounce back.

“We need to work on our passing and better communication,” she told the PCN. “It’s a game of passing, you have to have a good pass, to create a good set to create a good attack and it all comes back to that.”

She went on to say, that if the team can improve their efficiency in passing, other things will follow.

“That’s going to be our primary focus this week,” said Coach Siroky.
