One Nation, Under God
In only his second collegiate game with the University of Montana Grizzlies, former Mustang standout Tucker Schye made the Northwestern Energy Play of the Game on KRTV last Saturday. While his team was receiving a punt from the Central Washington Wildcats, his teammate John Nguyen lost control of the football, which then popped out of a Central Washington player's grasp and a gift fell right into the hands of Schye. "It just popped up into my hands," Tucker Schye told the PCN. Schye then did something a backup linebacker can only dream about. He preceded`` to take the ball 46 yards to the endzone. No flags. Touchdown. "I was just incredibly lucky to get that and it felt awesome but I just gotta keep playing better," Schye continued. The touchdown gave his team 17-0 lead with 4:10 to go in the first quarter. Thanks in part to his touchdown and a huge Griz lead thanks to their explosive offense, Schye had the chance to see some time with the second team defense in the second half. "It was great to play more defense in that game than against Wyoming (week one). It was just a great first experience at home," Schye said. Schye believes that he could've done a lot better and has a lot of room for improvement, but he believes he will get better each week. Schye even made a couple of tackles against tailback Jordon Todd, who was a Big Sky caliber player last season as he eclipsed 1,200 yards in 2013. Though he put forth effort in snaps that seemed meaningless in the fourth quarter Schye knows he can and will improve his efforts on defense. "I just got to get better with effort and technique especially on defense," Schye said. "I do feel confident (I can make strides in this defense), but I gotta put in a good week of practice, keep my nose to the grindstone, keep studying film and I think it will come."
