Lund couple both in standings; Simonson leads headers

They say a couple that plays together stays together, and in this futuristic age where many couples bond over texting and video games, Logan and Lindsey Lund team rope. Every once in a while on the same team.

The couple was seen at the third event in this summer's Crossfire team roping series, which was held at Trafton Park last Wednesday, July 9.

Logan Lund has been competing in rodeo events since he was 13 years old. How good has he been over the years?

"It put me through college. I got scholarships," he said.

He plans on doing it as a hobby, even when he gets old.

"Go to work each day. Get on a horse and ride at night. Life is good," he said.

Lund graduated from Fergus high and went to college in Miles city for two years and finished in Dillon at the University of Montana Western, where he kept riding rodeo as a calf roper.

"I did fairly good," he said.

He has won a few ropings in his young career, the biggest finish was when he won the number 6 in the Wrangler finals in Billings in 2010.

"That paid about $6,000 a man in saddles and we were roping against about 600 teams," he said.

He doesn't take credit for his trophies and buckles. Most of the credit goes to his horses.

"Horsepower in this game is everything. If you got good horses, you're going to be successful."

He and his wife Lindsey own a few horses, "Outlaw" being the only one present at the event.

The Lund couple met at the Roy Father's Day rodeo, five years ago.

"Since then, everyday love grows and it's still growing I guess," he told the PCN.

Lindsey is an eight year veteran at team roping, though she took two years off for the birth of their seven month old daughter Legacie.

"It's all for fun," Lindsey said. "Some of these guys get pretty serious but I just do it for a good time."

Lindsey has once proclaimed that she would never-ever team rope. But the closeness of the group drew her in.

"It's kind of the family atmosphere(that drew me in)," she said. "Everyone looks out for each other and it is more of a social get-together and outing."

The couple has won together once at the Pat Vanek Memorial in July of 2011.

I prefer the heel because I enjoy that end a lot more," Logan said. "High school and the first few years of college I did heading but I transitioned to heeling and I believe it's more of a challenge for me."

Lindsey told the PCN she couldn't heel to save her life and that she is lucky when she catches the calf by the horns.

"They say it's easier if you start out headed and work your way to heeling and vice-versa," she said.

Every couple eventually has a first kiss and every couple that participates in team roping may find themselves partnered-up with their significant other.

"I wasn't so nervous, but everyone else was telling me that I should be nervous because if I didn't catch it would be all on me," Lindsey told the PCN. "But if I caught it's all on him."

She went on to say their first roping as a couple went well but Logan doesn't like to rope with his wife.

"I offer to rope with him every time but he would rather rope with his buddies over his wife," she said.

"It just depends on the events," Logan responded. "Some of the events we go to they are a higher number of ropers. I'd rope with her all day in lower numbered ropings, whether it's a four or a five, but there's some ropings where people are nine team and ten teams."

Lindsey's free-spirited attitude can sometimes hinder Logan's competitiveness, however both will be roping for a long time. Together.

The Lunds are both in the leader boards after three events.

Logan is tied for fifth in Heeling, with 19 points, while Lindsey is fourth in the All Girl rankings, with three points.
