One Nation, Under God
The M-ettes basketball camp kicked off Monday, and with it came 27 young ladies hungry to learn more about the game of basketball and in the process learn only a part of what it takes to be an M-ette.
"We're spending quite a bit of time on fundamental stuff," said M-ette head coach Nate Hammond. " We have some stations and we would like to balance camp with some shooting and ball handling drills."
The camp also features free throw, one on one and five on five competitions. Hot-shot or knockout was also amongst the festivities.
Along with second year M-ette head coach Hammond are coach Tyler Hanson, M-ettes Darby Schye, Kelsey Kuehn, Rebecca Smith, and Markelle Lett and former M-ette standout Bobbi Knudsen.
One of the perks for Hammond coaching this event, is it will give him a good look at the future talented players, that may or may not slap on a blue and white jersey. There are several eigthth graders at the camp.
"It's definitely good for those being in high school next year to be able to come in and get used to some of the stuff they'll probably be doing in high school ball," he said. "For the younger kids, just to get a basketball in their hands and see what the older kids are doing."
He went on to say the younger kids will learn a lot just from watching and being coached.
As far as students who have stood out above the rest, Hammond has claimed that he has seen some talent, though he can't put the names and faces together yet.
"There's a lot of good kids here," he told the PCN. "I don't most of their names yet, except for some of the older kids." (From camp last year).
At the conlcusion of camp awards will be given to campers that have stood out amongst the rest.
