Forty-four young men from all over Northeastern Montana attended the Little Mustang Basketball camp that was held at the Old Gym last Monday through Wednesday.
Kids from Saco, Hinsdale, Malta and even Turner showed up.
The coach/ camp leader was Lori Carney who had the help of high school Mustangs Tyson Carney, Jase Galt and Allen Williamson. They spent three days training the campers through drills and games.
"Camp's been going great," said Lori Carney. "these kids have been working hard. The older boys have been having a lot of fun doing it."
The camp provided fundamentals of the game including posture, form, defensive drills, rebounding drills and shooting drills - including jump shots and lay-ups.
They participated in three on three competitions and a camp favorite called Hot-Shot.
Known in some courts as Knockout, Hot-Shot is a game that involves two players with basketballs at a time. In the lead position, you get to shoot first but if you miss, the person behind you can knock you out. Ultimately the game ends with only one victor.
On opening day, fifth grader Cody Oxarart stood on top of a mountain after he knocked out state performer Tyson Carney for the win.
"These high school boys are great role models," Carney said. " They didn't understand it or realize how much these younger boys look up to them. This has been good for all."
The camp had several athletes that shined but one local Mustang was a sight to see.
"We have a couple of six graders who have been doing well and working hard," Carney said. "Cooper Oxarart is one sixth grader that has done well in everything he's done."
