Norman was born January 24, 1936 in Malta, Montana. Raised on the family farm North of Dodson, he learned the value of hard work early in life. After graduating from Dodson High School in 1953, he worked at the Saco Dehy in Saco MT, as well as for several local area farmers before leaving on his own for Helena to find work. While there he enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1958, and later returned to Malta to join the Army National Guard, and to pursue his farming and ranching career. In 1965, he was united in marriage to Alice Marie Field, and together they bought a farm East of Dodson where they raised a family of their own. In 1976, dad began his second career aside from farming, as a U.S. Mail Contractor, driving the mail truck from Malta to Havre six days a week. (It has been estimated that within the time of driving this route, he has driven over 3 million miles.) In 1980, he added a second mail route South of Dod-son driving daily to Zortman, Landusky, Hays and Lodgepole. In 1990, he worked alongside mom in a third mail route North of Dodson. Dad remained steadfast in his career for nearly 40 years, until health issues prevented him to continue his dedicated work.
