Like father, like son is an overused cliche. For example, both of Michael Jordan's sons played basketball in college but neither lived up to the hype as their father did. Many sports can be taught. Rodeo is in the blood. Hailing from Dickinson, ND, 17-year-old Boyd Stroh is the son of Shawn and Shannon Stroh. Shawn has been a part of the National Finals Rodeo for 26 years. Boyd took the Phillips County Fair by storm this year. In a stable full of horses with plenty of attitude, Stroh was the onl...
Seeing someone else around town with the same exact vehicle you drive can be off-putting. Unless of course you won that vehicle. While Kolby Messerly and Jace Bishop didn't necessarily win matching pickup trucks, they did win matching horse trailers at the 2014 Ty Yost National Team Roping Tour in Billings On July 19. It just goes to show that Malta's Crossfire series features championship caliber riders. The Bishop/ Messerly duo picked each other as teammates for the event. "We could pick or...
The beautiful thing about 4-H competitions are the fact that young or old the participant can do well. Jeret Warren, a senior at Whitewater High and RJ Burnham, a ten-year-old Saco resident, have a major age gap, but both of them won the title Grand Champion at the 2014 Phillips County 4-H Horse Show. Jeret, a ten year 4-H participant, sponsored by Todd and Carol Smith, won first place in Senior Showmanship and was a grand champion in the Ranch Horse IV category. Warren fared well considering...

At his age today, Hould is the youngest of the Crossfire summer series team ropers, but age isn't anything but a number. Hould was brought into the sport of team roping last year after he...
