    The Malta Mustangs varsity track team showed up in Whitewater last Saturday for the first time and won the event consisting of eight teams. The Mustangs had a total of 146 points. Lustre Christian was second with 84 points. Hinsdale was third with a total of 75, Hay Lodge Pole was fourth with 35, Whitewater was fifth with 18 points, Dodson was sixth with 12, Nashua was seventh with 11, and Saco was eighth with four points.     The Malta boys and girls golf teams have had a rough start to the season due to weather. They got the first meet of the season in on April 9, at Shelby. The Mustang golfers were led by Kaden Bishop with a score of 100. Good enough for 17th place overall. He was followed by Jon Siewing-112, Hunter Stolem-115, Ashton Weston-115, and Connor Clausen-119.     The Malta M-ette track team competed well at the Whitewater track meet, taking second as a team last Friday, April 23, despite the cold. Whitewater won the meet with a total of 171 points. Malta was second with 139 points, Saco was third with 65, Hinsdale was fourth with 59 points, Lustre Christian was fifth with 33, Nashua was sixth with 21, Turner was ninth with nine points, and Hays Lodge Pole was eighth with six.     The Malta Mustangs joined 26 other teams for their first track and field event since 2019, last Thursday, April 1, in Glasgow. The Glasgow Invitational featured close to 600 athletes. Malta placed sixth amongst all teams at the event and was the third ranked Class B team in terms of scoring. The event was won by the Class C Hinsdale Raiders who scored 76 points.     The Malta Mustangs Track team returned to practice for the first time in a year, optimistic that they will compete for the first time since 2019. In 2019, the Mustangs had over 20 athletes and earned second place at the Northern B Divisional.
