The overall winner of the high school girl's 5k, 3.1 mile race of 43 runners was Annie Kaul of Plentywood, who cruised over the Airport Golf Course speedily with a time of 19:51. Last Saturday, August 28, Marian Hills Golf Course was the host of the 30th Annual First State Bank / Ezzie's Wholesale Golf Scramble. The event featured eighteen four-person teams (divided equally by handicap) that had golfers from Malta, around the county, state, and even golfers from Arizona. The Malta M-ettes hosted the 2021 Malta Invitational Volleyball Tournament last Saturday, August 28, at the Malta High School Gymnasium. The event featured six teams; the M-ettes, Plentywood Wildcats, North Country Mavericks, Harlem Wildcats, Poplar Indians, and Circle Wildcats. Saturday the 21st, Malta hosted the 24th annual Ryder Cup matches against the golfers from Glasgow. 24 players from each team competed for the right to hold the Cup at their respective club until the other is able to take the cup away. Glasgow has had possession of the Cup since 2019, when they defeated the Malta golfers at the Sunnyside Golf Course in Glasgow. The Malta Mustangs Football team started practices on Monday, August 16, but one highlight of the week was day two, a day that featured a college-style combine event. The Second Annual Craig Mangis Rough Stock Memorial featured plenty of action last Saturday night at the Trafton Rodeo Arena in Malta. The event is in memory of Craig Mangis who passed away on May 27, 2019. Last week, young basketball players from the Malta community experienced GROw Training, a basketball camp put on by Ro Wiggins, a coach, and trainer who will soon be in Phillips County to stay. The 106th Phillips County Fair Indian Relay was held on Sunday, August 8, and though it was chilly in the grandstands, all went well until the last hour of races. Then it turned epic. The Grandstands at the Phillips County Fair were packed for the AMX Racing and Crash for Cash events on Saturday, August 7, in Dodson. The AMX Super event was won by Willie Bice of Plentywood, who had never raced at the Dodson Track before. Bice edged out Great Falls' Dustin McKinney who had previously won at the P.C.
