The Grandstands at the Phillips County Fair were packed for the AMX Racing and Crash for Cash events on Saturday, August 7, in Dodson. The AMX Super event was won by Willie Bice of Plentywood, who had never raced at the Dodson Track before. Bice edged out Great Falls' Dustin McKinney who had previously won at the P.C. The Phillips County Fair Rodeo kicked off Grandstand events with a bang and plenty of action last Thursday, August 5. A few locals were able to participate in the event, including barrel racers Kelsie Robinson of Saco, and Morgan McEwen of Malta. The Rural Communities and Agricultural Neighbors (RCAN) held a sanctioned Ranch Rodeo at the 106th Annual Phillips County Fair in Dodson last Sunday, August 8. The Malta Swimmers showed well at the 2021 State Swim Meet this past weekend in Columbia Falls on both Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1. “This weekend went really well for us, especially with the pool being closed for repairs, and us not being able to practice,” said Swim Team Coach/Swimmer Darrow Messerly. “I had a lot of kids PR in a lot of their events, which made me proud knowing how competitive the state meet gets. Despite a couple of hot and smoky days, the 7th Annual Marian Hills Open finished without a hitch, and with a record number of participants. It was a hot weekend in Malta with the temps reaching triple digits on both days, but that didn't stop the race enthusiasts from speeding down the track at the Hi-Line Drag Strip. The Malta Swim Team has had a busy week to go with an already busy summer. Last Wednesday, the team held a Swim-A-Thon, raising over $5,000 to help with the costs of running the team. The event featured music, alumni, and 200 laps that were swam by Malta Swim team members from the past and present. The Malta M-ettes volleyball team was the top team at the 2021 Missoula Team Volleyball Camp, an event that started on Wednesday, July 7, and concluded on Friday, July 9. The Malta High School Old Gym was the site of the 2021 Malta Summer Slam Wrestling Camp from Monday, June 28, to Wednesday, June 30. This year served as the second year of the camp. The first event was held in 2019 and canceled in 2020 due to the threat of COVID-19. There was a total of 51 wrestlers from age five to age 14.
