The Whitewater Penguins have three new runners on the course this season. Our veteran, Shelbi LaBrie, is returning with the addition of Sommer Green (11th), Tyler Scheffelmear (11th), and Barrett Wasson (7th). It's been a fun three weeks leading up to our first race of the year. All four of my runners are so hard-working. They were pretty nervous to compete in their first race, but they did a great job. On Friday the runners competed in 80+ degrees, so it was a hot, miserable one. The Wolf...

The stands began to fill, and the crowd was ready for a great show with action and they weren't disappointed. As the heat began to release its intensity, those attending were treated to a fine showing of skills, talents and dedication to a sport that is still alive in rural Montana. The 5th Annual Craig is a rough stock rodeo dedicated in memory of Craig Mangis, a long-time supporter of rodeos, kids, family, and ranch life. Saturday night's action started out on a "low" level, so to speak, with...
Last Friday, Malta's Jim Fauth set out to stock his freezer with salmon from Fort Peck Reservoir. He did, just not in the way he was expecting. "There were only four teams competing for Class C at state and we managed to get a 3rd place trophy even though there were four of us swimmers. That being said, if we got 3rd place with only four swimmers you could only imagine what we could do with more. "All the Malta...

On Saturday, two wee pound wrestling whizzes traveled to Spearfish, South Dakota. They were bound for the 2024 Blackhills Night Brawl, a unique wrestling event. Apparently, they didn't get enough wrestling in during the season, or they just love the sport. Wanna make any bets...to win, lay it on their love for...
At Trafton Park, it wasn't no kids' rodeo. This was where the boots, hats, and butts hit the ground...it was another rodeo put on by local rancher, Jerey McEwen, and a host of hands that made it seem to go like clockwork. Felicia Bruckner opened the event on Saturday by singing the national anthem, followed by a prayer by the announcer. On Sunday, Sommer Green of Whitewater sang the anthem. The pickup men were Ted Brown and Reed Pankratz. It wasn't much of a "Cowboy Christmas" at the rodeo for...
