The Malta Swim team overcame a couple of 105-degree days in Glasgow last weekend, including record-breaking 108-degree temps on Sunday, July 17. The Malta Swim Team hosted their first Montana Federation of Swimmers swim meet since the 2018 season. One year, the teams didn't have enough swimmers and parents to set up a meet, one year was canceled due to COVID, and another was lost due to pool conditions "It's great to have kids back and parents to help us set up and make this happen," Malta Head Coach Darrow Messerly told the PCN. The 2022 Malta NRA Rodeo featured a little adversity by way of a bleacher-clearing thunderstorm last Saturday, July 9, at the Trafton Park Rodeo Arena. At the time, the event was mostly finished with only four bull-riders left in the event. The Penguin Palace in Whitewater was the site of Coach B's Basketball Academy, a week-long event in which the youth of Phillips County and surrounding towns were able to work on their skills on the court. The camp was led by Jenna Bolstad, an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Montana Tech. The Malta M-ettes basketball team hosted their annual Little M-ette Basketball Camp last week. The camp hosted 32 girls from third grade to eighth grade. Last week, the Milk River Bambino Baseball league started in Malta. This season, the league is under new leadership, as Kenny Murray, a Malta native, hopes to bring the same passion for the sport that he saw growing up, back to his hometown. The Malta Swim Team has had two early meets this season to get things going. On June 4 and 5, the team was in Harlem for the Harlem Invitational. On June 11 and 12, the team traveled to Chinook for that Invitational Meet. Malta head coach Darrow Messerly said, “Things are going good for the early season. At the end of last season, then swimmer/coach Darrow Messerly was saying that he had really enjoyed his time with the swim team and was wishing them well in the years to follow. The Malta Shrine Club recently held a player appreciation dinner for the two players that have been chosen to represent Malta in the 2022 East West Shrine Football Game, Cash Salsbery and alternate Rex Williamson.
