    Phillips County track teams were busy last week with both the Cal Wearley Memorial (CWM) and Havre Lions Meet happening in Havre. The CWM was held last Wednesday, April 5, while the Havre Lions meet was held on Saturday April 8. At the CWM, both Malta teams took tenth place with the M-ettes scoring 11 points in the Varsity Women's events and the Mustangs scoring 12 in the Men's Varsity events.     Malta High School hosted the 2017 Malta Athletic Club Golf Invitational last Saturday. The boys' event was won by the Mon-Dak Thunder who had a score of 376. Glasgow came in second with 388 and Wolf Point took third with a total of 465 strokes. The girls' event was won by Poplar who had 440 strokes. Glasgow placed second with 448 and Richey-Lambert took third with 474.     With nine athletes in track for the Saco Panthers this season, the team looks to do some damage in the 3C ranks. The number of athletes out for sporting events this season is a first for Saco Head Coach Barry Malone.     Last season the Malta M-ettes found a good place to have their strongest efforts of the season, earning the team the 2016 State B Title. Both teams made great strides last season, but both teams also have new looks having graduated many state performers and placers on both squads. The team has 37 athletes, 17 of which are M-ettes and 20 boys.     The Dodson Coyotes Track team consists of six athletes this season as well as a new assistant coach. The team was able to start practicing on March 13, but many of the young Coyotes will not be eligible to compete until the second week of meets.     The Whitewater Penguins bring back plenty of experience in their 2017 campaign fielding seven athletes this season. There are six returning athletes and one new athlete.     The 2017 Malta Golf team features a new look that features 15 golfers and two new coaches. The team is comprised of eight boys and seven girls, some of which have experience at the divisional level. The varsity teams will consist of five golfers on each squad.     The Malta Cheerleaders not only participated in their first competition, CheerFest last weekend in Lewistown, the team was able to tie for second in the Class B Cheer Team category.     The Malta Middle School Wrestlers hosted their home meet last Thursday evening at the Old Gym with close to 300 in attendance. The event hosted several teams including Chinook, Harlem, Havre, Glasgow, Lewistown and Hays.     The NCCA March Madness Men’s Basketball Tournament will mean a little more to local businesses and the PC Health-Care Foundation this season as an auction raised $1,985 last Tuesday. The annual fundraiser and bidding war was held at the Lucky Bullet, with over 30 in attendance. The auctioneering was donated by local auctioneer Darrell Carney.
