The Malta High School Old Gym once again kicked off another season of Fatman Basketball on Sunday, November 11. "It's just for us old guys that are out of shape," coordinator Nate Fried said. "The other guys might be fast, but not me. It's only the end of the first quarter and I am ready to call a timeout. Come back at the end of the month and I...

The final score of Malta vs. Huntley Project first round playoff, a game in Malta last Saturday afternoon, 30-6, doesn't really tell the tale of how close this gridiron match really was. Timely touchdowns in the contest by the visiting Red Devils made the score seem more lopsided than the final outcome would make it seem and as anyone in attendance will attest to, the Mustangs played with grit, passion, and dedication to one another and to their coaches. The timely touchdowns by Huntly Project...
With their season on the line and their backs against the wall, North Country Libro Elise Strommen left her feet and slid head-first to save a Lustre serve that if had hit the ground would have ended the Lady Maverick's volleyball season. "I felt like I was going to throw up," Strommen said. When asked at which point she thought she'd get sick during the play - before, during, or after - Strommen said "all three." Strommen's save led to a kill by teammate Kia Wasson to stave off what would have...

If there could have been a trophy awarded for the weather, today would have gotten it. With clear, azure blue skies, not a wisp of a breeze, and warm 65 -degree temperatures, it was a picture perfect day for running. The green grass and the golden trees were a pleasing contrast of color. Dotting the sky was an occasional colorful Para-glider soaring above the golf course and Mount Sentinel. Spectators were lightly dressed compared to the cold windy state meet of the previous year where all manner of winter wear could be seen. No goosebumps...
Cross-country rivals Malta and North Country met on the volleyball court for the final time this season last Tuesday in Saco, and though the M-ettes would sweep the contest, 3-0, the Lady Mavericks didn't go home without a fight, as the final scores were 25-23, 25-17, and 25-21. Ahead of the contest, seniors Jenessa Malmend (escorted by family including parents Travis and Tracy Malmend); Kloie...
The elementary and junior high Jamboree Basketball season got underway in Dodson last Friday as the teams from North Country came to town to take on the Coyote teams. Those in attendance got to see Dodson's new concession stand on display for the first time, featuring great deals, hot food and manned by the trio of Reba Weitz, Chris Sears and Donna Duncan (that should keep this reporter in free popcorn for the foreseeable future, though he will insist on paying his own way.) The first contest...
Editor’s Note: The picture and story from last week’s PCN was mistakenly ran in place of the Browning Meet. The photo of Mira Heitland from last week was taken at the Browning meet on Saturday, October 6, and not the “2018 Golden Eagle Invitational in Fergus.” The Golden Eagle meet was held on Friday, September 14. The Malta M-ettes Cross Country team ran in the Browning Invitational Cross Country Meet that was held at the Cut Bank Golf Course on Saturday, October 6.
