The Malta-Whitewater Mustang Wrestling Cooperative will look to continue the success that the team had last season as it returns four of five state performers from last season. The North Country Mavericks were able to lock down the Jamboree Championship title after surviving the 2016 Jamboree Girls Tournament held at the Whitewater High School Gymnasium on Saturday, November 19. Former M-ette Standout, Courtney Henry graduated from Malta High School in 2013 with quite the resume in athletics. Since her graduation, Henry has been involved in college basketball and track and field. She had previously attended Montana State University in Billings but for the past year Henry has been playing point guard for the Medicine Hat Rattlers in Alberta, Canada. Keira Simonson, a Loring native and sophomore at the University of Montana has had another solid year of college rodeo under her belt. Simonson has shown improvement in her second year, taking eleventh place in Ladies Barrel Racing at the 2016 Indian National Finals Rodeo in Las, Vegas, Nev. held November 8-12 at the South Point Equestrian Center. General big game season ends, shoulder seasons remain in many hunting districts Despite mild weather throughout November, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will not extend the 2016 big game general season, still 41 hunting districts have shoulder season that allow antlerless elk hunting, largely on private land, through December, and in several instances, into the new year. A total of 15 4-H members participated in the 4-H Livestock and 17 members participating in the Miscellaneous Judging on November 6th at the Pavilion in Malta. The Malta M-ettes volleyball team saw their season come to an end at the Northern B Tournament in Shelby last Friday after they lost their elimination game against the Cut Bank Wolves in four matches. Trevor Pankratz, son of Laura and Bill Pankratz of Malta, has been a part of the Montana XC (cross country) series, a league of racers that have races all over the state.
