The 2019 Mustang Football Team started preparation for the season in June with a team camp in Spearfish, South Dakota by competing against teams from South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. The season included eight wins, two losses, a second place finish in the North Division, and a first round playoff victory. The season ended with a Quarter-final loss in Red Lodge. I want to mention how proud I am of this year's M-ettes. We didn't get the chance to bring home that trophy from State in Butte, but we were in very good position when it all ended. The 2019-20 season for the Mustangs was a real rollercoaster ride type of a season. We started the season against two-time defending state champion Bigfork Vikings at the Coyote Classic in Shelby. Going into that game, the coaching staff did not know what to expect. Our team was young and without a lot of experience as we were starting two seniors, a junior, and two sophomores. The 2019-2020 cheerleading year was a fun, crazy, and bittersweet year full of emotions. Being my fourth year coaching, it was the year my first freshmen were seniors. The 2018-19 Golf season was an excellent season for the Malta golfers. First for our Most Improved Golfers. Hayden VanWichen, as a sophomore, was one of our best golfers. His growth from his freshman year to his sophomore was immense. Has a freshman Hayden's average score was a 116 with never shooting under 100. After redshirting his first year at Montana State University Northern in 2017, former Malta Mustang standout Ostin Welch has made up for lost time as a Northern Lights defensive back. Welch, son of Jerry and Beth Welch of Miles City, helped lead MSU-Northern's defense as a captain in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. James Brant Young made perhaps one of the greatest plays in Malta High School history on Saturday, March 16, 1985, but before and after his game-saving three-point play in that state basketball championship, Young was formidable in the boxing ring. Born in Havre and raised in Malta, Young is the son of Gary and Donna Young of Wagner. During his boxing career, he had around 160 fights and 12 losses, according to his memory. But, not simply for a vacation, she is going to run in the 2020 Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon (RNR) to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hosptial in Memphis, Tenn.
