Dear Editor, First 100 days of the Trump administration Things accomplished: Supreme court appointment - altho had to invoke "nuclear option" to accomplish. Bombed ISIS Tunnels with the MOAB - cost unknown Bombed Syrian airport with 59 missiles cost 59 million for missiles alone Traveled to Mir-al- ago resort cost 25 million Moved an armada off the shore of South Korea to defend against No Korea - costs unknown - but says So Korea will pay the bill - yeah like Mexico will pay for the wall! Saved Carrier from moving to Mexico - many financial...
Dear Editor, I would like to thank Julia Tatafu and Natalie Judd for their organization and leadership of the Tiny Tots Recreation Program that they started last fall and just this week concluded for the summer. They had the courage and energy to take on a group of 2-5 year-olds twice a week and attempt to teach them basic skills such as standing in line, throwing, kicking, and catching a ball, and even more valuable lessons such as following directions and playing nicely with others. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed going each time, and I...
Dear Editor, I think mistreating bison is wrong. They are very good animals, and it would be a shame for bison owners to not take care of them. The ways I think we can help bison are: more reservoirs. That way, bison can have more space, because they can only go so far from a water source. Plus, they can still drink from a reservoir when other water sources, such as creeks, are dried up. We should give our bison vaccinations. That way, our bison don’t get sick. And the bison who are sick don’t make other bison sick. People should have few...
Dear Editor, It was a dark stormy night, under a clear and starlit sky. I was tired of being tossed around in the salad bowl of life, so I hopped into my little blue car and buzzed over to the Malta High School, where folks were gathering to witness a culminary arts contest. It seemed that the judge for this cooking contest (Mr. James Casanova) was downright arrogant, malicious, and maniacally rude to the contestants. And last, but not yeast, he delighted in humidifying every single person with whom he came into contact! So it was not...
Dear Editor, A new website has been created to show what President Trump's Mir-a-logo trips cost, funded by tax payers for a get a way and golf. Type in "Is Trump at Mar-a-logo" in the search engine up pops - the to date costs of those trips. On the right hand side of the page is a listing of programs slated to be cut in his new budget click on the item and you get a list of the doomed programs allowing you to see costs of that program. Still asking the question wasn't Trump's promise to "Keep America First?" Does that include spending for...
Dear Editor, Amazing - during the presidential campaign candidate Trump promised "America First." With President Trump's budget cuts to many social and health programs for many financially disadvantaged Americans - Trump chose to go after the Syria's deplorable activity against THEIR people - recently the chemical gassing - an unbelievable happening - spending for missiles alone was $59 MILLION. Thought the Constitution requires Congress to OK any order to go to war unless it is an imminent to the United States. Unfortunately planes were...
Dear Editor, Gee, no arm-twisting, insulting Tweets or threats of not being re-elected in 2018 made by President Trump could change the minds of U.S House of Representatives conservative set. Yeah for sticking to believing the campaign promise of eliminating "ObamaCare." Not that it doesn't need work. But at least President Trump was considerate enough this past Saturday and not cost us (tax payers) 3.2 million to go to Mir-a-logo resort to play golf - instead to one of his resorts in Virginia. Oh by the way Secret Service just requested an add...
Dear Editor, I think many in this community need to give a big “Hats Off” to Vikki and Jim Truelove. Realizing that many of us could not go to Billings for the recent basketball tournaments, they graciously let us come and watch the big events at the movie theater. We were so lucky to be able to watch the games in this way. Thank you Vikki and Jim for making this possible. We do appreciate what you did for the community fans. Rosemary S. Veseth Malta...
Dear Editor, Sympathy to the protesters in South Dakota, who are protesting the pipeline going over their native American burial ground; worse yet, pipeline probably will contaminate their drinking water! (Personally if some company wanted to dig up my parents and families graves in the Malta Cemetery, I would protest too! Also, I know how important and precious water is, since I drilled my own new well here in Whitewater a few years ago. Hope they win the protest! Helen Austin, Whitewater...
Dear Editor, Trump's weekend "getaways" — better known as three trips to Mar-a-Lago (he calls Southern Whitehouse) on three weekends during his first month in office have cost American tax payers $10 plus MILLION DOLLARS! Trump criticized Obama for spending $11 million over ONE YEÁR on vacations - WOW appears we can't afford Trump in more ways then one! Oh by the way tax payers are still paying for Trump Tower security because Trump's chose to keep their son in his school until end of the school year - estimated cost a half million dollars pe...
Dear Editor, We would like to compliment the folks who came to Horse Ranch along Timber Creek to hunt this year. Hunters are getting better every year. Staying on the road may seem unimportant, but it is important to us, because we use the roads to fence, etc., and find noxious weeds much sooner. You did a great job this year. We routinely pick up garbage. It used to be bottles and cans, now we just find Styrofoam cups (I can’t wait for those made out of biodegradable lignin) and plastic wrappers that our famous merry little breezes snatch o...
Dear Editor, The November General Election held on November 8, 2016 was the most expensive statewide election on record at over three million dollars. This was due to many factors, including unprecedented voter turnout and the reprinting of ballots due to Libertarian candidate Mike Fellow’s untimely death. As Representative Zinke’s pending appointment looms over Montana, Election Administrators across the state see mounting costs for an unbudgeted election. Election Administrators have a solution to save taxpayers money. Election Offices are...
The announcement that the Keystone XL pipeline’s presidential permit application is being considered again is good news for Phillips County, Montana and the United States. Trans Canada will become Phillips County’s largest taxpayer by building additional infrastructure in the county. Phillips County and the school district that the pipeline will be located in will benefit from approximately two million dollars annually in additional taxes split between the two entities. The State of Montana will receive a similar amount. Keep in mind that this...
Twelve to fifteen billion dollars. That’s a lot of cash. That’s more money than many countries in the world are totally worth. And we have a guy that wants to spend that kind of money, your money and mine, on a wall. ( And it won’t be his money. Remember? He told us he doesn’t pay taxes.) (My Pop always said “ Be wary of the guy who’s spending the other fella’s money”). But where does that wall go? It sounds like a wall that’s a few feet wide, pretty tall, and pretty long. Goes across the bottom of three or four states. I’d say that’s a lot of...
Dear Editor, Senior members of the United States, who receive benefits of Social Security, received approximately an increase of $3 per month for the 2017 year. Trump, during a current rant, is wanting voter fraud investigated - stemming from the fact he didn't win the popular vote. Unfortunately, the tax payers will have to foot the bill. Trump, get over it - you are the President, act presidential and quit embarrassing the American public. There are too many needed projects for us taxpayers to pay for your insecurities. Barbara Schlocker...
Sirs and Madams; Over the past several months I have had the opportunity to travel across much of our beautiful state of Montana, from my home in Malta, Mont., to the Missoula area. On each occasion I noticed that when I pass through the quintessential American working-class village of Bonner, there is displayed on one residence a flag which formally represented a portion of the Confederate States of America. The flag on display is the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia; commonly, but mistakenly thought to be the flag of "The Confederacy."...
Dear Editor, We write this letter to bring attention to what we feel are the egregious and illegal acts and policies of Malta, Montana Water District. The first act we’d like to bring attention to is the charging for services not rendered, we have been continually billed for water service to both our garage that has no water nor any outlets to dispense water) and to the house located at 621 Highway 2 E. Malta, Mont., even though we have repeatedly informed them that the residence is question has a well and receives no water from the city s...
Dear Editor, Once again I’m expressing my appreciation as a senior citizen in Malta. The best place in the world for seniors. All the merchants in town are so helpful and most have handicap entrances. Valley Drug keeps us straight with medicines. GN serves senior lunches. Albertsons has a handicap cart for visitors. The banks offer free checking and money orders and cookies on Fridays. The Senior Center has all kinds of activities. The Malta High School gives us free tickets to games, concerts, and plays. And if you can’t make the games KMM...
Greetings to the editor! I am so proud of the MHS Honor Society group, who raised funds for Wounded Warrior Project, and for the Angel Program (p. 4b, PCN 11/23)! I would like to share how our family has been personally impacted by Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). In January, 2014, our youngest son was medically evacuated from Afghanistan, during his fourth combat deployment. He was returned to base at Anchorage, Alaska, where he would eventually begin to recover from the damages of war. A close friend of Joshua's was serving at the base EOD...
Dear Editor, One million, 500 thousand plus (1,569,824 as reported by AP and still counting) voters went to the poles or sent in their votes by mail to participate in the 2016 presidential election. Both candidates continually reminded us to get out and vote. But do to an archaic system known as the electoral college the candidate with the lesser votes won the presidential election. Therefore not being the choice of the citizens of the United States eligible voters. Seems that those who always tell me my vote doesn't count anyway so why bother...
Dear editor, The election is over but talking about it may never be finished. The pollsters are trying to figure out what they missed. Often thinking about it, I am not baffled or confused at all. I submitted this quote from Hillary Clinton’s speech delivered on April 23, 2015, at the Women’s World Summit: “Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will and deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.” Hillary Clinton planned to use her position to force people to change their beliefs...
Dear Editor, I read with interest your cover article about the changes at Art’s Furniture (Art Lundstrom to retire after 39 years, October 12, 2016). It doesn’t seem possible that nearly 40 years have passed since my dad sold the business to Art and Mary Lundstrom. For the McKoy family the “Store” including the apartments above supported our big family for over 30 years as well. I am sure my parents would agree that what sustains a family-owned business in a rural community are the wonderful people who buy things over and over through...
To the Editor, I am writing to express my complete dismay over Judge McKeon's decision regarding the sentencing of the man who committed incest with his daughter. I know too many women personally who have been abused by their fathers in this way. The father let off so lightly will do something again - will try evil acts again. This judge's decision is a complete miscarriage of justice and he should be removed from any case of rape, incest, or abuse. The girl is not going to be protected by her mother or ever again by her father. Carolyn Hopper...
Dear Editor, Public Access is not a Sportsman versus Landowner political issue. However, out of state activists like Sierra Club, ASPCA, Defenders of Wildlife, etc. are trying to make it one. Anti-hunting groups are attempting to increase their influence by pouring political action cash (PAC Money) into Montana’s state wide elections. The cause of newly blocked sportsman access is not landowners. The federal government is gating roads and abandoning trails. Federal overreach is impacting the jobs and recreational opportunities of both l...
Dear Editor, OK new Hi-Line Retirement Center "new" board - asked for transparency. So far have not seen anything in the PCN as to what is going on - with exception of a new administrator. How about all the overdue bills - rumors food providers demand cash - private patient accounts payable and Medicare and other billed services that were not up to date - how about the 5 million dollar USDA loan's activity and with the transferring of licensing to become a assisted living facility only - which I believe is to take place October 30th. What's...
