The local VFW Auxiliary was able to convince three individuals of the importance of serving as a judge for the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen essays. The lucky three spent nearly four hours on Saturday listening to 63 of the 65 essays submitted. Bright and early on Monday morning, veterans made their way to the Malta High School cafeteria, where they were greeted by young ladies as school representatives and Principal Shawn Bleth. On Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10:49 PM, the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received an automated emergency response indicating the owner of the cell phone had been involved in a crash and was not responding to the phone call. The GPS location indicated approximately mile marker 20 on Highway 243 North of Saco, MT. Emergency personnel were dispatched to that location, and a single-vehicle crash was discovered.
