At this time, I'd like to ask you to take a few minutes to reflect on those who are often left behind when our loved ones are deployed-the families. April is Month of the Military Child. While Purple Up Day is observed on April 15, I'd like to encourage all Auxiliaries to wear purple to their April Auxiliary meeting and take a photo that can be shared on your social media platforms to show your appreciation for our military...

This year’s essay topic was “volunteerism.” The third and fourth grade winners were: Addy Anderson, Kirsta Meisdalen, Nikki Nicholson, Brylee French, Emma Harms, Kevin Missildine, Aiden Kaasa, Trin...
No, he's not "Whispering Bill Anderson," he's "Soft Spoken Bill Abrahamson." We are both glad and fortunate to have him living in our community. This quiet man of few words, who is not only talented, he is now celebrating his 80th revolution around the sun. Friends and family gathered at the monthly Jam Session at the VFW to celebrate the milestone with him. Maria Anderson provided the cake decorated with, of course, a guitar. Since she was unable to attend due to her schedule she left the...

The American Legion Auxiliary Juniors of Malta Post 57 have added a new project this year as part of their service to the men and women who have served in the military. This year they are preparing small packets of seeds for an annual flower, the "Forget Me Not." The small plastic bags contain seeds and planting instructions. It was decided to send seeds rather than starting the flower, as weather conditions in Montana were a factor. The Juniors will provide the families of local veterans who...
As spring was welcomed with open arms and brooms standing solo in the kitchens, the rush to exchange seasons lasted less time than it took to brush the cobwebs off the screen door. Montana's winter season swung back around and dumped moisture across the state, and did not forget to visit Phillips County. The eager beavers found themselves swapping out flip flops and jogging shorts to locating the kids' winter caps and gloves again. It was a sure sign spring is here...the storm was just Mother...

As spring weather approaches, we’re all anxious to head outdoors, and bears are leaving their winter dens. This time of year, bears are waking up from hibernation and are pretty hungry. So, it’s best for you, and for the bears, not to leave out anything that will attract their appetite or their curiosity. If you’re outside working or recreating, you need to be aware that bears are out there, too. Anytime bears are not in hibernation, which is typically between the beginning of March and the end of November, is the time to be bear aware, accor...
