Phillips County has made it through another week without having a positive COVID-19 test result! Congrats to us for staying home, washing our hands and social distancing! The birds are gradually coming back. I saw mourning doves and redwing blackbirds this week. I'm going to drive to my secret spot to see if the yellow bellwort is out yet. I'll let you know next week if they are! To break up this coronavirus isolation a few people from Loring did take part in the social Distancing Cruise on...
The weather man has promised us a few days of warmer weather and it has been a little nicer except we have still been having wind every day. So what's new in Montana. Gardens are being tilled and flowers are starting to come up--- my garden was still too wet, there was such a snowdrift on it all winter. Condolences and well wishes are sent to long time resident, farmer friend, Willard Mortenson who fell and broke his hip this week. Everyone sends Willard prayers and well wishes for a speedy...

This week I got to watch workers do some welding in the Malta Municipal Pool bathhouse building, where they also worked on some remodeling work which included removing mold. They also cut thru some concrete with saws. There were two City of Malta Public Works crew members working there. I went over and saw the new speakers at the Villa and got to listen to Easter music it and sounded good. On Friday night, there was a cruise where people drove their vehicles up and down Central Avenue and the...

Aside from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office and a few in the know, it was a surprise to many when music came bellowing through and off of the buildings on Saturday afternoon…the looks on some of the people’s faces in the Albertsons’ parking included confusion and pleasant surprise, to name just a few. About six hours prior to the music starting, Villa Theatre’s new owner Greg Kirkwood sits in his new office in the theatre’s building (the old H&R Block office). He and his wife, Jan, bought the Villa earlier this year after the couple retired...

Thank you to all certified staff for your prompt responses to the survey questions and data that we will continue to utilize each week to see what is working well and what adjustments are needed. Two of the crucial areas seem to have gone well according to parent/family and staff feedback received this week. Communication and accessibility to your parents/family were the top priorities in the beginning. It sounds like that went great and that is attributed to every individual staff effort in this. Great job. Continue to listen to your parents...
Sympathy to the Loring Colony on the loss of Paul Hofer. Some family and friends from Canada were unable to attend his services because of the COVID-19 virus. The Colony cooks had prepared for Canadian family and friends to be in attendance at Paul’s services, so they had plenty of leftovers. Hello to Mr. Everett Marks of Saco. He is 94-years-old and still at his ranch in Saco. Gale Young, my daughter, is one of his CNA caretakers. A salute to her and all medical workers. Mr. Marks says, “I am...
The geese and Sandhills cranes are still flying over on their way north for the summer! The cacophony is a welcome sound! Another sound I love to hear in the mornings is the meadowlark song! And the sassy warning of the Robin! The weather has been all over the place, almost 60 degrees and calm one or two days, then rain and blam! Snowy blizzard with a north wind! Easter Sunday was a total mix! During this time of sequestering I'm happy that the governor declared that the Easter bunny and tooth fairy were essential workers! A lovely surprise...
Everything is still locked down and everyone is staying home and away from contact with other people. There is hardly any traffic on the streets. Hope everyone had a nice Easter, even if it was a lonely one and friends and family had to be greeted by phone. The day itself was strange as we had cold with a wind, then a small snow squall and then sunshine and warmth. In working in our yards we have found new growth in flowers coming under the leaves and debris so nature is trying to tell us...

"I saw applying for ACE as a way I could learn to talk about Farm Bureau, farming and ranching. Since I was a nurse for 30 years, my ability to be...
