The 67th Session of the Montana Legislature is one that Montanans can be proud of. Voters sent us to Helena with a mandate to change the way state government does business. At the beginning of the session, we made policy promises that we are proud to report we have delivered on. Our primary constitutional duty is to pass a balanced state budget. We created a conservative budget by keeping state spending below inflation and population growth while still responsibly funding government operations. We positioned our economy to come back stronger...

On Friday, April 23, the city of Malta got out and about in their cars and let the good times roll! The weather was a bit on the chilly side, but that didn't stop a large number of people from getting out. There were many different types of vehicles out on the loop. From new cars to old classics, pickup trucks and even one RV! People sitting along the route were waving and trying their best to get everyone to honk as they passed by. Many of the local restaurants and bars were busy throughout...
Freedom was at the forefront this week in Helena. This week at the legislature, we made significant progress in ensuring freedom and protecting liberty for Montanans all across the state. House Bill 702 prohibits discrimination against all Montanans based on their vaccination status. That means employers may not punish or fire employees for personal medical decisions, nor can they require employees to get a Covid vaccination. However, employees must understand. The policy manual of the employer. This bill is not an attack on vaccines. The...
Near US Highway 2, they are pouring down asphalt near the Royals Inn Motel. A team of workers are remodeling the 3 Sisters building....
How many remember the old Trafton Door Store? The following is a story told by Tom Laurence on how Trafton’s first store floated in! The prairie was covered with buffalo bones when Bob Trafton first arrived. He hired every man he could to gather bones. He was known as the “bone boss”. He bought a small building up the river where Wagner now stands and hired me to move it down the river for him. I took it apart in sections, pulling the floor into the river then put the sides on the floating floor, then the roof, lashing them all together. I too...
April brought us a mix of moisture, a little mist, a little rain and a bit of snow, too. But not much! We had lots of wind! The birds are migrating through. I even heard the sandhill cranes the other day! The spring flowers crocuses are still blooming on the hillsides. I have not seen the yellow bells that I look forward to the last week of April. Maybe they are just a little slow this year. I went to senior lunches in Whitewater on Wednesday, then Lu and I spent a few hours at the Great Plains...

1 years ago- Wednesday, April 27, 2011 Giant pothole in Highway 2 The build-up of ground water along, and under, Hwy. 2 west of Dodson, was the apparent cause of a sink hole which appeared in the eastbound traffic lane recently. “Actually, there were two holes,” said Ray Mengel, District Administrator of the Montana Department of Transportation, headquartered in Glendive. “The extreme amounts of groundwater loosened the ground around two culverts under the highway, washing the dirt next to the culverts away and causing the earth above the c...

April is always a fast-paced month at the legislature, and this year is no different. The Senate has been busy voting on a lot of bills that covered a wide variety of topics. I am confident that the bills we passed will improve the lives of Montanans in many ways, however, nothing is perfect. This past week the Senate passed two critical appropriations bills that will help our state move past the pandemic and sustain prosperity for decades to come. As we decided what to do with the federal stimulus money, Republican leaders in Helena, unlike Wa...
